Game description: The original rap star is back in the house! See if you have enough rhythm to keep the beat with everyone's favorite rappin' puppy. Join Parappa and a cast of new and familiar characters on a mission of the utmost importance: prevent the Evil Noodle Syndicate from turning everything into noodles. Check out the funky fresh tunes that are guaranteed to get your toes tappin' and your head bobbin'.
This time, Parappa won a 100 year supply of noodle products. He liked it at first but later got sick of it. His love, Sunny Funny, friendly mocked him by calling him a baby for refusing to eat noodles and he started to question his maturity. But he then noticed something: everything in his town is turning into noodles! Including food! It's now his job to be a grown up and save the day.

Trivia

  • Original names: パラッパラッパー2 (SCPS-15017) & (SCPS-19201)
  • This is the sequel to the PS1 game PaRappa the Rapper.

Known Issues

The multiplayer background is rendered incorrectly

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The background renders as corrupted text.
  • Workaround: go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set mipmapping to off, but it will still not be perfect. The only way to truly fix it is to have a recent nightly build, and then open it go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set mipmapping to full, then go to HW hacks and set trilinear filtering to ultra. (or use a software renderer)

Blur effects are offset when upscaling

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The blur effects are being offset during upscaling, resulting in the effect not working properly.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings > Advanced Settings and Hacks and set Texture Offset according to your resolution scale:
Resolution X Y
2x Native 300 300
3x Native 333 333
4x Native 367 367
5x Native 400 400
6x Native 433 433
7x Native 467 467
8x Native 500 500

Modding tools don't work on newer versions

  • Type: Note (not an issue)
  • Description: PTR2BESMS (A modding tool for PaRappa 2) doesn't work on 1.7.0 and newer
  • Workaround: Use it with PCSX2 1.6.0

Fixed Issues

The "rappin' bad" effect is rendered incorrectly

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The noodles seen in bad mode don't look the way they're supposed to.
  • Workaround: In older versions of PCSX2 (before 1.7.0) go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set internal resolution to native. In newer versions (1.7.0 and after) this issue has been fixed. (Note: the HW hack disable safe features uses the upscaling from older versions making the issue appear again)

Black box at the top left of the screen

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Description: A black box appears at the top left of the screen in both HW and SW modes (called the black noodles by fans because of it being a corruption of the awful mode effect)
  • Workaround: This issue is fixed in 1.7.0 by disabling MTVU. For older builds, the "Disable Depth Emulation" HW hack can be used but will cause additional graphical issues.

The "rappin' bad" effect is missing (in old versions)

  • Type: Note (not an issue)
  • Description: The "rappin' bad" effect is not shown. (This can also be seen in the PS4 port of the game)
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)" and make sure Hardware Depth/Depth Emulation is enabled, or set Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options. A different issue will appear in the top left corner of the screen. However, this is a very minor issue that does not get in front of the lyrics. In newer versions this is completely fixed

Objects sometimes get in the way of lyrics

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Description: Objects sometimes get in the way of lyrics.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, > HW hacks, and turn off disable depth emulation.
