pre 0.9.7 beta Try to avoid any combination of EE Cyclerate and VU Cycle Stealing.

Most of the time this will lead to false FPS readings and slowdowns instead of more speed. Running the game as an ISO image directly from your hard drive is also a good idea. If you have Windows Vista or later use the "DirectX10/11 (Hardware)" renderer option in GSdx, it's usually faster and more compatible than the DirectX9 one. The VSync option in the settings of "GS Window" settings should be deactivated, use PCSX2's Frame Limiter to keep your game from running too fast. Many reaction-based minigames are easier if you use the Slow Motion Adjust toggle (Shift+Tab), as the speed of the gameplay will be slowed down by half (or what you have set in the GS tab for the toggle). On the other hand, if your computer is able to run this game at considerably more than 60 FPS, you can fast forward long conversations or your level grinding with either the Turbo Adjust toggle (Tab) or by disabling the Frame Limiter completely (F4). Recommended to disable Allow 8-bit textures in GSdx. Speedhacks/Settings: EE Cyclerate (2): Noticeable speedup, setting it to 3 causes problems in FMVs. INTC Sync Hack: Small if any speedup, no issues. Idle Loop Fast Forward: Noticeable speedup, no issues. VU Cycle Stealing: Noticeable speedup, but have issues if set higher than 1 (slight). MTVU: Noticeable speedup in quad(4)core CPUs.

1.2.2 GSdx SPU2-X Super easy to emulate, responds well to VU Cycle Stealing as there are some slowdowns CPU-wise, but not much; will slow down on Demi and Fire spells due to GPU bottleneck; is fully playable with some buggy areas that are already well documented; use whatever GPU driver works best for you (as long as it supports minimum required OpenGL version) DaTankAC

Trivia

  • Original names: ファイナルファンタジーX (SLPS-25050) & (SLPS-72501) & (SLPM-66124)

Known Issues

Gaps in level geometry

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Small holes or gaps appear in world geometry (most noticeable in Macalania Woods) (https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/3341).
  • Workaround: Switch to software mode and enable edge anti-aliasing.

Mi'ihen Highroad and in-game menu slowdown

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Although the rest of the game runs fine, the Mi'ihen Highroad area and in-game menu slow down significantly.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, and disable the Allow 8-bit Textures option.

Broken Textures

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Small black lines and dots visible at the edges and corners of texts and images.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, turn on "Enable HW Hacks", go to Configure Hacks and set Round Sprite to "Half". Alternatively set Internal Resolution to "Native" or Texture Filtering to "Bilinear (Forced)".

Subtitle Glitches

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Subtitle text shows various graphical glitches: uneven outlines (some text has much thicker outlines than other text), flickering text or grayed-out text.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, and enable the Allow 8-bit Textures option.

Broken Depth Of Field in fights and cutscenes

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The depth of field effect appears as ghosting/blurring when upscaling.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, turn on "Enable HW Hacks", go to Configure Hacks and set Skipdraw to 1.

Fixed Issues

Characters face the wrong direction during battles

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: In certain battles (the Geosgaeno battle in the NTSC-U version, for example), all characters will be facing away from each other.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Emulation Settings > EE/IP tab, and set Clamping Mode to "Full" (also setting VUs tab Clamping Mode to 'Extra + Preserve Sign' could help this work better), or set EE/IOP Round Mode to "Negative".

Flickering FMVs

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Affected Game Versions: PAL
  • Description: FMVs may flicker between the game world and the FMV every 0.2 seconds until the FMV ends.
  • Workaround: Switch to Software mode during FMVs by pressing the F9 key.

Dots/Holes in Surfaces, Especially Faces

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Dots/holes appear in many surfaces, particularly faces, as described in this thread, Seems to only affect Intel iGPU's.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, and set Renderer to "Direct3D9 (Hardware)".

Kilika Sending

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Description: The game crashes during the cutscene which shows Yuna's first sending.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Emulation Settings > EE/IOP tab, and set Clamping Mode to "Extra" and "Extra+Preserve Sign", and do the sameon the VUs tab. Alternatively on the VUs tab, set VU0 and VU1 to SuperVU Recompiler.

Weird Hair

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Some polygons in e.g. Tidus' hair are rendered incorrectly.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Emulation Settings > VUs tab, and set VU0 and VU1 to microVU Recompiler(the default option).

Reverse controls in some places

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Reverse controls in some places (will move right to left)
  • Workaround: For the NTSC-U version, go to Config > Emulation Settings > VUs tab, and set Clamping Mode to "Extra + Preserve Sign". For the International version, go to Config > Emulation Settings > EE/IOP tab, and set Clamping Mode to "Full".

Pixelated pause screen

  • Type: Note (not an issue)
  • Description: At higher than native resolutions the pause screen displays a pixelated version(snapshot at original PS2 resolution) of the game under normal gameplay.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, and set Texture Filtering to "Bilinear (Forced)".
