Game description: Dragon Quest V grand adventure that unfolds over three generations of heroes. Take your place among a family of heroes, sharing in all the triumphs and tragedies of their storied lives! Our story begins with a small boy hero, travelling the world with his father, Pankraz. Over the course of his many adventures, this lovable lad learns and grows. And when he finally becomes a man, he resolves to continue his father’s unfinished quest -- to find the Legendary Hero.
This PlayStation 2 version remakes the classic RPG with new features and visual presentation. While much of the game will remind you of the original Super Famicom version, the world of "DraQue" and its characters and enemies are now presented here in 3D. Enemies now have lots of humorous animation patterns and frames. The battle backgrounds have great depth to them, allowing you to see mist flowing against mountains in the distance and waterfalls. Finally, the music is completely orchestrated now.

Using the english patch version, 3 hours into the game and I've yet to notice a menu out of order issue using the hardware OpenGL renderer, so that is definitely fixed. Haven't been able to notice any weird colors in sprites either but it's still early to fully verify that. Pcsx2user

Known Issues

Weird sprite colors

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Some of the sprites (hair, mustaches, grass etc...) have weird colors at the edges. This game has an issue with both of the Forced Bilinear Texture Filtering options from the Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings menu, when using Hardware rendering.
  • Workaround: The fix is to select either the "Nearest" Texture Filtering or the "Bilinear (PS2)" Texture Filtering settings found in the Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings in the newer versions of PCSX2(like 1.5.0 and up). For the older versions (1.2.1 for an example) you go to the same settings and either disable(uncheck) Texture Filtering(this is "Nearest") or you set it up as greyed out (filled box)(this is "Bilinear (ps2)"), checking the box enables Forced Bilinear filtering which is the culprit here.

Menus out of order

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The order of the menus is broken.
  • Workaround: Go to Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings, and set Renderer to "Direct3D9/11 (Hardware)", or to any of the "(Software)" options.

Camera glitch at the top of Mount Evil

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: At the top of Mount Evil the camera locks looking up at the characters.
  • Workaround: Negative Divide Hack.
