Game description: Burnout 3 challenges you to crash into (and through) busy intersections, while creating as much damage as possible. You can battle your way to the front of the pack by taking down rivals and causing spectacular crashes. For those who thirst for crashes, the game includes a crash mode that rewards you for creating massive pileups. With multiplayer gameplay, more than 100 events, and 40 tracks, Burnout 3 provides intense speed and action.

Played on a Mid 2019 MacBook Pro 15" via BootCamp. Used Async mix for audio and the F9 trick to fix the skies. Mostly 60 fps with occasional stutters, completely playable from start to finish. The game indeed looks a bit darker that the original, and textures might sometimes flicker. DevilDimon

  • Access the Progressive Scan menu by holding the cross and triangle keys together when the game boots up.
  • The game sets to widescreen when it is prompted by the 16:9 ratio setting in the PS2 internal menu.

Known Issues

Black Sky / Shattered Car Window Effect is Missing

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Sky is rendered black and car windows don't appear broken after a crash.
  • Workaround: Switch to software mode(F9 button), load an event, and then switch back to hardware mode(F9 button again). The sky will now be blue(although it can appear a bit bugged) until you restart PCSX2. Keep loading events in software mode to avoid to the bugged effects in the sky.

Broken Fog

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Fog in this game is not properly emulated and does not appear as a result.
  • Workaround: Use Software mode.

Sun is Visible Through Walls

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The sun can be seen through walls and objects.
  • Workaround: In recent v1.5.0 git builds, go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, and set the "Renderer" to any of the software modes. There is no fix for older versions.

Street directions are visible further than they should in Hardware mode at higher resolutions

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Some street directions, like the red crosses sprites that tell you a street is closed, or the yellow arrows that tell you turn, appear before they should in Hardware mode at higher resolutions because the game uses mipmaps to gradually make them appear as you get close to them, but higher resolutions use higher quality versions of the texture, making them opaque earlier.
  • Workaround: Set Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options.

Blur is not as intensive in Hardware mode

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Workaround: Set Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options.

Image is slightly brighter in Hardware mode

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Most of the times when in-game (not in a menu), the Hardware render will be darker than the Software one, likely due to post processing.
  • Workaround: Set Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options.

Fixed Issues

Vertical bars in progressive scan mode

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Affected Game Versions: NTSC
  • Description: When progressive scan is enabled big vertical bars obscure most of the screen.
  • Workaround: Fixed in recent PCSX2 1.5.0 dev builds, keep crc hack level on Automatic. For older builds go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, click "Enable HW Hacks", go to Configure Hacks and set Skipdraw to 3. Or set the Renderer to any of the software modes.

Vertical bars in multiplayer

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Description: In multiplayer, bars of white obscure much of both split screens.
Possible alternative solution: Enable shade boost in GSdx settings, and set the 'Brightness' level to anything lower than 50 (49 works).

Dulled Surfaces

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: In Hardware mode, shiny surfaces e.g. car bodies are duller than they should be.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set the Renderer to "OpenGL(Hardware)" and set Blending Unit Accuracy to "High" or above. Or select any of the Software renderers.

Purple Windows/Textures Under 16:9 Mode

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Affected Game Versions: NTSC
  • Description: Bugged textures when booting the game via System->Boot CDVD (full).
  • Workaround: This has been fixed in recent v1.5.0 git builds. For older versions use System->Boot CDVD (fast) instead of the full boot option.

Missing Blur Effects

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Blur effects when moving fast are missing.
  • Workaround: Use Software mode.

Grey Lines Within Text

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Some text has light grey lines running inside each character e.g. the "BEST" text in Time Attack.
  • Workaround: This has been fixed in recent v1.5.0 git builds. For older versions use Software mode.
