Game description: The 2005 installation of the McRae franchise has over 70 stages spread over nine countries: Australia (loose gravel), Japan (tarmac), Finland (gravel), Greece (rough rocky gravel), UK (tarmac, mud, and gravel), Spain (smooth tarmac), USA (gravel/dusty tarmac), Sweden (snow and ice), and newcomer Germany (abrasive tarmac/light gravel). There are over 30 cars available, including Ford Focus WRC '01, Subaru Impreza WRX Sti '04 (which is featured on the front cover), Citroën Xsara WRC '04, Peugeot 206 WRC2003, and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII (8). There is also a revised graphics / damage engine that enables paint scratches on the car, and a new 'career' mode where the player starts out in the lower club leagues and works their way up to compete with Colin McRae in his 2004 Dakar Rally Nissan Pick-Up. In 'Championship' mode the player competes as Colin himself competing in 6 Rallies using any 4WD car.

Europe v02.00(14/06/2004), INTC, Wait Loop Detection, microVU, MTVU and VU Cycle Stealing on 1, Many graphic not showing on HW mode and game acts weird, SW mode shows everything but a bit too overbright and without car's shadow. Ghost car starts before countdown. Co-driver can glitch out and loop random speech throughout the game. Ingame clock runs slower, making the game very easy, but see this as some kind of benefit for those who aren't good at rally games. |
Known Issues
Broken game internal timing
- Status: Active
- Type: Severe
- Description: The game's internal timing is way off. This causes events to desync such as the ghost car that will either go much faster/slower than the time you set (if you import a save game with ghost times). Playing with internal cameras such as bumper view, hood view or cockpit will increase the gameplay speed in such a way that the car is too fast and uncontrollable. The internal timing is sensible to the emulation speed, speedhacks, renderer and even tracks/cars used.
- Workaround: This is not a foolproof solution, but going to Config>Emulation Settings>Speedhacks, tick "Enable speedhacks" and setting "EE Cyclerate" to -3 makes the game less faster, but still not quite how is supposed to run. Enabling Software Mode will also make the game slower (if you can substain a decent amount of fps).
Overbrightness in Software Mode
- Status: Fixed
- Type: Major
- Description: In Software Mode, during races, the game looks too bright.
- Workaround: Update to the latest nightly version of PCSX2.
