Game description: Get behind the driver's seat with this Speed Racer based on the Wachowski Brothers film with its garage of combat-ready rides and see how you fare in "car-fu style" action. Take on the role of the characters from the film, getting behind the wheels of each character's signature vehicles to experience firsthand the film's high adrenaline, combative racing style. A live-action family adventure, Speed Racer follows the young racecar driver Speed in his quest for glory on and off the track in his thundering Mach 5.
It is a tie-in to the 2008 film adaptation of the same name. The game is a racing game in the vein of the F-Zero series, including tracks full of odd twists, turns and loops impossible by realistic standards. The goal of the game is not only to win first place in each race, but also to have the most points by the end of the cup to win the competition. There are a total of 20 selectable characters from the film in the game, each with their own unique vehicle. Each character also has a specific rival, whom, should the player destroy or finish the race before, award bonus points.

Trivia

  • Also known as Speed Racer: The Videogame
  • The game sets to widescreen when it is prompted by the 16:9 ratio setting in the PS2 internal menu.
  • The widescreen mode only affects the scaling of the menu and HUD elements, the in-game field of view stays the same (meaning the image gets stretched).

Known Issues

There are currently no known, active issues for this title. If you find one, please add it here.

Fixed Issues

Missing bloom

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: The game differs considerably from software mode due to lack of bloom.
  • Workaround: Update to the latest nightly version of PCSX2.
  • Last tested on: v1.7.5638

Non-Issues

Light framerate drops

  • Type: Not an issue
  • Description: Game will sometimes drop from the full 60 FPS down to 56 or 58 FPS. This is present on original hardware.
  • Workaround: Set EE clock cycle rate to 130%. This should not break anything, but it will make the game more demanding to run. If in doubt, do not do this, as the difference is barely noticeable.
