Finally got around to downloading the official release build (I been away from PCSX2 since late 2011) - whaddya know, it ''still'' hangs this game right after configuring the initial options when starting a new game. When you click triangle to continue, the book starts to zoom in then stops, music continues playing, nothing happens. Debug window shows no errors. :Hmm, interesting, found [http://buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/ this little tidbit] - scroll down to the notes for build 5393, which says they fixed a long standing DMAC bug involving this game, among others. Very likely the exact bug here. Whaddya know, the official build is 5350 so yeah it wasn't in it. I guess using 5393 or subsequent builds should make the bug go away.
