Game description: Silent Hill 3 continues the series' trademark brand of psychological horror and terrifying gameplay. As a teenage girl named Heather, you'll explore and unravel the mysterious connection between the godforsaken town and her inner fears. Along the way, you'll encounter many strange characters you're not sure are trustworthy. Silent Hill 3 also features enhanced graphical detail, a more complex storyline, new items and weapons, and even more grotesque monsters than the previous games. Step into this world of nightmares and fight to survive.
Set seventeen years after the events of Silent Hill in which Harry Mason defeats the god of the town cult and is given a baby girl to care for, Silent Hill 3 focuses on Heather, a teenage girl who finds herself being drawn into Silent Hill's alternate reality. She discovers that the cult plans to use her to birth their god, and becomes caught in a conflict within the cult.

Seems to play fine, FPS sits around 59.94. Pentium D reQ high performance, Core i5 reQ Balanced, and AMD reQ High performance power for efficient usage. Laptop usage warning! Shadow weird but definitely add creepiness to the game (shadow is not correctly aligned with the protagonist mostly on the character sometimes on floor but not at her feet as if someone else is stading there!)

Playable with occasional display bugs. Videos, some 2D elements & some effects (shadows, grain filter, too much blur...) are missing in Hardware mode.

OpenGL Hardware produces PS2-accurate effects at no noticeable framerate cost. Runs at anywhere from 99 to 109% emu speed. All "Other" and "MicroVU" hacks enabled without changing EE or VU settings stabilised framerate, which was dipping whenever the in-game flashlight was on (dynamic shadows &c.) | starkeysuper64 |

The game runs at 1440p (2K), with no brakes on OpenGL rendering. Offset shadows appear on Direct3D 11, so it's better to play on OpenGL rendering. | Chern40+7 |

FMVs play correctly in software mode via the "Switch to GSdx software rendering when an FMV plays" hack (not tested with hardware, but probably would only display a black screen based on other tests). As far as I know though, this fix is removed in 1.7.0, so you'd probably need to press F9 a lot to get FMVs to work on a hardware playthrough. Text is grey instead of white. Full speed. Fully playable. | PandoraGTX |

Known Issues
Misaligned shadows
- Status: Active
- Type: Minor
- Description: Shadows appear in front of an object instead of behind it in hardware mode.
- Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Setttings, set Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)", and enable Hardware Depth(or in recent v1.5.0 git builds make sure the "Disable Depth Emulation" hack is turned off). Or switch to Software mode by setting Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options.
Missing grain effect
- Status: Active
- Type: Minor
- Description: Grain filter is absent in hardware mode.
- Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)" or "Vulkan (Hardware)" and Blending Unit Accuracy to "Medium" or higher.
Glitchy status screen
- Status: Active
- Type: Minor
- Affected Game Versions: NTSC
- Description: When entering the gameplay menu (Start) and examining an item, the status screen will disappear when returning to the menu. Loading a savestate saved in the menu will cause the status screen to show multicoloured garbage.
- Workaround: Unknown, switching to software mode with F9 might help, but this causes other more major issues (see above).
Fixed Issues
Black FMVs
- Status: Fixed
- Type: Minor
- Description: FMVs are not shown in hardware mode when the game is running at 60hz(all NTSC versions, optional in PAL).
- Workaround: 1.7 versions (partial workaround): Place this Silent Hill 3 .pnach file to "cheats" folder and enable it in PCSX2 options (System > Game Settings > Enable Cheats). This .pnach file was edited to include FMV fix only. As far as I know, it's a partial fix, so FMV videos can still break and not show anything (opening video worked for me, but credits did not). Additionally, you can check out original .pnach file that includes different options for Silent Hill 3, you can open it with text editor and comment out (with "//" prefix) options you don't want.
- Note: In later 1.5 and 1.6 revisions, this is automatically fixed as long as System > Automatic Gamefixes is enabled. For older versions go to Config > Emulation Settings > Game Fixes tab, click "enable manual game fixes" and enable the "Switch to GSdx Software rendering when an FMV plays" fix.
- Note: In earlier PCSX2 v1.5.0 git builds and older versions, FMVs will flicker even in Software mode.
Grid obscures FMV's
- Status: Fixed
- Type: Serious
- Affected Game Versions: PAL
- Description: In PAL 50 Hz mode, FMV's are visible in Hardware mode, but a grid covers the videos, obscuring and darkening the image when the resolution is set to anything higher than native.
- Workaround: As of recent v1.5.0 git builds, this can be resolved. Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, click "Enable HW Hacks", go to Configure Hacks, and enable the "Unscale Point Line" hack. Or Go to Config > Emulation Settings > Game Fixes tab, click "enable manual game fixes" and enable the "Switch to GSdx Software rendering when an FMV plays" fix. Or play in native.
Heather Body Texture Distortion/Flickering.
- Status: Fixed
- Type: Minor
- Description: Sometimes the textures on the player character's body flicker and distort when using OpenGL
- Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set Renderer to "Direct3D11 (Hardware)".
Discoloured text
- Status: Fixed
- Type: Minor
- Affected Game Versions: All
- Description: Text is grey instead of white.
- Workaround: Set Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)" or "Vulkan (Hardware)" and Blending Unit Accuracy to "Full (slow)" or higher.
