Game description: PachPara 14 is the last PS2 release in Irem's long-running pachinko simulation series. It features faithful 3D recreations of two pachinko machines made by Sanyo Bussan: CR Super Umi Monogatari in Okinawa MTA and CR Super Umi Monogatari in Okinawa SAD. There are two modes available: Normal mode allows the player to modify a wide range of settings for each machine, while Battle mode challenges the player to win as many balls as possible on the default settings with a limited starting pool and time limit. There is also a View mode where the various animations that play on the in-game display can be freely viewed, and a customization mode where different picture combinations can be placed in the menu background.

The story mode this time is Pachi-Pro Fūunroku 6: Jōnetsu-hen, a direct sequel set four years after the previous title, and featuring the same cast. The protagonist's attempts to build a career playing pachinko have had many ups and downs, but after a particularly humiliating defeat, they come very close to suicide, only to be rescued at the last moment. The story follows the protagonist as they attempt to rebuild their life and find true love.

It is once again possible to choose either a male or female character and freely explore the town, either on foot, on a bicycle, or even driving a car. The major new addition to this installment is the theater system; the protagonist joins an acting troupe, and can perform parts in plays, with the player choosing the lines as the scene proceeds. The character and apartment customization options from the previous game have returned, and there is of course also plenty of pachinko playing and dating. The player must stay healthy by eating and exercising, and can also go fishing or even play a few rounds at a batting center.

1.2.1 GSdx 5875 SSE41 Renders fine in main pachinko simulator mode, the first option on main menu. In the open world RPG mode, the second option, however, by default, vertical green bars appear on screen after character creation when starting a new game in hardware rendering mode. The issues disappear in software rendering, but with the expected framerate hit, given the CPU, though this can be alleviated somewhat with continuous frameskipping enabled. PepsimanGB

Known Issues

Green Vertical Bars on Screen

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Major
  • Description: After going through character creation and initial dialogue choices in the second menu option from the main menu, vertical green bars appear on the screen and remain during both cutscenes and gameplay.
  • Workaround: Activating software mode. Can also possibly be somewhat alleviated with some GSdx plugin settings, but many graphics hacks and the likes tend to introduce new problems of their own thus far.
