Game description: In Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, change is imminent. The dark Netherworld has been overtaken by evil rulership and Prince Lahari, the rightful king, must fight his way back to the throne. As Lahari, assemble a massive army from over 150 character classes and monsters to decimate opposing forces. Decimate your enemies by upgrading your weapons and unleashing mind-blowing spells, special skills, and devastating group attacks. It's time for you to start acting like a king.
Disgaea is a tactical role playing game. Battle gameplay takes place on a map divided into a square grid. The player controls a squad of humanoid units and monsters, which each occupy a single square of the grid and do combat with a group of enemies. Depending on the character and attack selected, the player will be able to deal damage to a specific enemy unit or a designated region of the map. Combat ends when all enemy units or all of the player's units are destroyed.

Humanoid characters may lift and throw other units across the map in order to allow allies to move further or force enemies to keep their distance. This even allows the player to capture enemies by throwing them into the base panel; these enemies then become allies, and can be used on subsequent maps. The chance of capturing an enemy in this manner depends on several factors. Failure to capture the enemy will result in the death of all characters inside the base panel, and the enemy will survive.

Working OK and looking good. (this is 'the best' version of the game but the content of the disc is the same as SLPS-20251). Some minor glitch on sprites/fonts on high resolution (software is OK, of course)...

Known Issues

Scaling glitches

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: Using resolutions higher than native can give minimal glitches
  • Workaround: Using the Native option in GSdx and/or disabling Texture filtering helps too.

Hang in r3878

  • Status: Fixed
  • Type: Serious
  • Description: In the emulator version 0.9.7 (specifically, build r3878), the game hangs shortly into the intro cutscene of the second map of Stellar Graveyard II ("Core Point No. 4"). Music continues to play, but neither the party in the background nor Kurtis descending in the foreground are visible, and the game will not continue at this point.
  • Workaround: Upgrading the emulator to build 4600 fixes this.

Note: Using the exact same PS2 disc there were no problems in a previous run using emulator version 0.9.4. This seems only to affect r3878. However, later versions of emulator may have this issue as well. May need to to use 0.9.8/r4600 build to see scene, or skip it to continue.
