Game description: Some say there's nothing finer than a well-crafted automobile. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, which brings the series to the PS2, features over 150 of the world's top performing sports cars, luxury autos, modified street runner, rally racers, and prototype evolutionary automobiles. Each car looks and handles exactly as they should, thanks to the detailed graphics and realistic physics. Choose your favorite car from a large group of manufacturers including Nissan, Ford, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz. Race head-to-head with another player or up to six players via iLink. Gran Turismo 3 is a true car-lover's dream.
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is a 2001 racing game, the first in the Gran Turismo series released for the PlayStation 2. During its demonstration at E3 2000 and E3 2001 the game working title was called Gran Turismo 2000. The game was a critical and commercial success and it went on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time.

BIOS: USA v1.60. Software mode appears to run significantly better than hardware mode even at native resolution. Note to everyone, PCSX2 can use hyperthreading to its advantage; set extra threads in software mode to "3" ("7" if you have a HT-capable Core i7) if you have a laptop. Even desktops are useful for this. Around 38-50 FPS on Test Course.

Note: FPS stays around 50, but on city courses and sunset tracks like Smokey Mountain Single Race / 2-players mode, slight slowdowns occured (ca. 3–12 FPS). Sometimes FPS drop can even be ca. 18 FPS at tracks like Special Stage Route 5. Sometimes a very short slowdown may occur just before the race. On Software-mode: Usually about 10 FPS slower than hardware-rendering (with 4 threads). Hardware mode resolution 2x Native (Required for smooth replays, otherwise Custom resolution: 1920x1080 doesn't give any extra slowdowns).

Runs full 60FPS, in night courses I use VU Cycle stealing set to 2 and it removes all slowdowns (disabling after the race is necessary as it can cause control lock up in the menu/softlock, restoring VU Cycle stealing to 0 immediately corrects any lockups).

BIOS: USA v01.60 (07/02/2002). 60 FPS 100% of the time for both menus and sim; tracked using RTSS. Runs smooth without any issues. No drops in FPS, stutters, etc. anywhere. Any settings I didn't note to the left are at default/recommended. Game works perfectly with a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows.

BIOS: Japan v2.20/USA v2.00. Game runs at a smooth, stable 60 FPS in every single track with the exception of SSR5 and SSR5 Wet, in which case it might drop to 57-58 FPS in a couple of sections for half a second if many cars are on screen. If it's only your car on screen it will never drop below 60 FPS.
