Game description: Yakuza 2 plunges you once more into the violent Japanese underworld. In intense brutal clashes with rival gangs, the police, and the Korean mafia, you will have opportunities to dole out more brutal punishment. As the heroic Kazuma Kiryu from the original Yakuza, explore Tokyo and now Osaka. Wander through the back alleys of Japan's underworld while trying to prevent an all-out gang war in over 16 complex, cinematic chapters written by Hase Seishu, the famous Japanese author who also wrote the first Yakuza. Endless conflicts and surprise plot twists will immerse you in a dark shadowy world where only the strongest will survive.
Half of the game takes place in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, most noticeably a recreation of Shinjuku's red-light district Kabukichō renamed Kamurocho. The other half takes place in Osaka, with the fictitious Sōtenbori and Shinseicho areas modeled after Osaka's respectively Dōtonbori and Shinsekai districts.

Known Issues

Semi-transparent line in the middle of the screen

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: In Hardware mode a semi transparent whitish line appears in the middle of the screen.
  • Workaround: Go to Config > Video (GS) > Plugin Settings, set Renderer to "OpenGL (Hardware)", click on Configure and enable "FXAA" in the top right corner. Make sure "Half-pixel Offset" in the Configure Hacks submenu is disabled.
    • Alternate workaround: Switch to Software mode to setting Renderer to any of the "(Software)" options.
    • Alternate workaround: With Direct3D 11 (Hardware), don't use Texture Filtering "Bilinear (Forced)".

Ghosting

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Description: In some areas of the game the character models, neon signs, etc. will have a ghosting like effect when playing in non-native resolutions.
  • Workaround: Go to Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings, enable HW hacks, go to Advanced Settings and Hacks, enable Alpha, Alpha Stencil, and Merge Sprites. Then set skipdraw to 1. This gets rid of the ghosting but unfortunately disables some lighting effects as well.
    • Alternate workaround: Play the game in native resolution.

Distorted/out-of-sync sound on cutscenes

  • Status: Active
  • Type: Minor
  • Affected Game Versions: PAL
  • Description: The sound of people's voices may become distorted and out of sync with the character's mouth movements. This happens when playing the European version at 50Hz.
  • Workaround: Set the game to 60Hz at the beginning of the game to avoid this problem.

Disc read failure at the start of Chapter 10.

  • Type: Note (not an issue)
  • Description: After the end of Chapter 9, the game stops loading, with the log giving a "failed to read disc" type error. This is caused by using a plugin or virtual drive to load the ISO.
  • Workaround: Loading the ISO file directly into PCSX2 will solve the problem.
